Over the past 20 years, Ellen Tomsic has helped 1000s of people just like you. Tomsic Physical Therapy are highly trained therapists with both residency and fellowship in manual therapy and orthopedic clinical specialties, and we’re well qualified to help you.
Often what happens when you get injured is you’re told to rest. Rest is not necessarily the answer. What you probably need instead is targeted rest, which is resting certain tissues while maintaining movement of other tissues.
What happens when you’re told to rest is often you fall into the pattern of treating it with hope. What that means is you wake up every morning and hope the pain has gone away. If the pain has gone away in two weeks, that’s great, but what’s happened as a consequence of resting for an extensive period is you’ve lost range of motion, mobility, and strength, and you’ve reinforced poor movement patterns. If you go back to activity after prolonged rest and inactivity, you’re going to end up with that same injury all over again.
If after two weeks of rest, the pain is still with you, you return to your physician, often they recommend additional medications, probably injections, and ultimately surgery.
What you need to realize is the conservative methods of physical therapy most often take care of all these injuries well before they get to the level of requiring surgical intervention. By coming to Tomsic Physical Therapy, having us do a thorough assessment of what your specific injury is as well as its root cause, and determining what you need for optimal recovery, you’re putting yourself in the best position for long-term relief.
It’s important to know that while you may have the same diagnosis as your friend, colleague or neighbor (for example, low back pain), what you need might be completely different than what they need. If you’ve been given a sheet of exercises that everybody with low back pain is given, that’s not targeted to you and your specific injury, and you may need individual, personalized help.
At Tomsic Physical Therapy, we treat a wide variety of orthopedic injuries, which include neck and arm pain, shoulder pain, back pain and sciatica, hip and knee pain, and foot and ankle pain – anything that has an orthopedic origin.
These injuries can be post-surgery, whether it’s a total knee, total shoulder or total hip replacement, or from any kind of fracture or fall. It could be pain that you’ve acquired over your lifetime, osteoarthritis in any of the joints in the body, or any other thing that happened in between. Tomsic Physical Therapy can treat all of these areas with our specialists and get you back to the hobbies, activities, and special moments that you have missed out on because of the pain you’ve had to endure.
We treat people of all ages, from young dancers all the way up to 80-year-olds with osteoarthritis who need to continue engaging in their lives free from the restrictions of pain. We also treat people who have been in wheelchairs due to injuries but have been able to get back to running. We’ve treated people who participate in ultra-marathons that run in our mountains, as well as everybody in between.
