One of the most common things we see at Tomsic Physical Therapy clinic is low back pain with leg pain, often known as sciatica. The low back pain can occur by itself, the leg pain can occur by itself, or more often than not, they can occur together.
The pain in the leg can be a deep achy sensation or numbness and tingling. The pain can be in the back, side, or front of the leg. It is essential to understand that although you might have the same diagnosis (for example, low back pain, or sciatica), your condition is completely different from that of your loved one, your co-worker or your neighbor.

Everybody is unique and therefore how an injury is to be treated must be tailored to the individual specifically. Sometimes the treatment requires you to bend forward, sometimes it requires you to bend backward, sometimes the treatment will recommend more rest, while others may benefit from more activity.
With a thorough evaluation, we can help determine exactly what you need in order to effectively treat your pain.
One of the biggest concerns with low back and leg pain is if it’s not treated correctly, it becomes episodic.
Some studies show if you get treated for your initial bout of low back pain within the first 17 days, the likelihood of it coming back is significantly reduced. If you don’t treat that with physical therapy and only rest until the pain goes away, the lower back pain tends to become episodic.
If you don’t come in and let us help you figure out which muscles to strengthen and which activities to do, the pain comes back more often, it comes back more severe, and it’s harder to treat with each episode.
