Telehealth Services

Telehealth is an option for people who are unable to attend in-clinic physical therapy for any reason. Evaluations and follow ups can be completed via phone, computer, or iPad where the physical therapist can assess your current function and abilities and help you come up with the best plan of care to meet your goals.

Trigger Point Dry Needling

Trigger point dry needling is a treatment for muscular tightness and spasm which commonly follows injuries and often accompanies the degenerative processes. This muscular tightness and spasm will cause compression and irritation of the nerves exiting the spine. When the nerves are irritated, they cause a protective spasm of all the muscles to which they are connected. This may cause peripheral diagnoses, such as carpel tunnel, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, decreased mobility and chronic pain. Small, thin needles are inserted in the muscles at the trigger points causing the pain referral. The muscles would then contract and release, improving flexibility of the muscle and decreasing symptoms.

Your feet are the base of support for your whole body. Your back pain can be affected by your feet. We have advanced training in the assessment of the alignment of your back to your feet and can create custom foot orthotics to help improve alignment, decrease pain and improve function from your spine to your feet. What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is the art and science of evaluating, diagnosing, and treating individuals of all ages who have musculoskeletal problems or conditions that cause pain and/or limit function. Physical therapists look at the person as a whole, using your history and a physical examination to determine the cause of your pain. A treatment plan is then developed addressing your goals to maximize your function. They believe that functional movement is a vital part of health and wellness. Physical therapy also strives for prevention; to prevent certain conditions, surgeries, falls and disabilities. Another important component is education. Your physical therapist will help you understand your body, therefore empowering you to achieve lasting health benefits long after you are finished with your physical therapy program. While PTs are most well known for treating musculoskeletal dysfunction, they also provide treatment for many neurological and cardiovascular conditions. In addition, Tomsic Physical Therapy provides specialty treatments in Sports Medicine, and Women’s Health.

What is Manual Therapy vs. Traditional Physical Therapy

Manual Therapy is a sub-specialty in the field of Physical Therapy. This highly skilled therapy involves the hands-on movement of a joint, muscle, or other soft tissue to decrease pain, increase range of motion, reduce inflammation, promote relaxation, improve soft tissue repair, flexibility, and/or stability, and improve function. Here at Tomsic Physical Therapy we specialize in Manual therapy as part of your treatment. There are many ways to pursue this sub specialty, from a weekend course, to a 1-2 year Fellowship Training program. Although anyone who has completed a weekend course can call themselves a ‘manual therapist’, here at Tomsic Physical Therapy, we have the only two Fellowship Trained Manual Therapists in the Four Corners region.
