By: Laura Wenger, PT, DPT
We are pleased to announce Janet Wells, PT, MSPT as the latest addition to the Rakita Tomsic Physical Therapy team. With Dave’s retirement at the end of 2014, it was a daunting task to think about trying to “fill his shoes” in our clinic. However, the task became much less difficult when Janet joined our team and we are thrilled to be adding such a skilled therapist to our diverse group. I was able to ask Janet some questions recently to get to know a little bit more about her.
Q: How long have you been a practicing physical therapist (and how many of those years in Durango)? 23 years total with 21 years in Durango specifically. All of my years as a PT have been spent in Colorado.
Q: Although you are very well-rounded, what would you consider your "specialty" that you will be bringing to Rakita Tomsic Physical Therapy? I have done extra training and focus on men’s and women’s health.
Q: What are you looking forward to in joining the team at Rakita Tomsic Physical Therapy? I am looking forward to lots of things!! More specifically, I am going to appreciate a calm, focused, and improved clinic layout as well as sharing PT info and learning from other colleagues.
Q: In your experience working with the Durango community what types of things do you like the most about helping the patients in this town? The patients in this community are motivated to help themselves, which is extremely helpful. I have found in my experience that giving them the right tools to help themselves is the key to their success.
Q: What types of upcoming continuing education or projects do you have in mind for the next few years? I am planning on completing advanced level training with women’s and men’s health. Other things I hope to learn more about are Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (McKenzie) evaluation and treatment techniques, as well as soft tissue release using tool assisted techniques.
Q: When you’re not in the office, where is the most likely place that people will run into you around town (i.e. activities, hobbies, recreation)? Mountain biking, Nordic skiing, downhill skiing, or at City Market south!<
Janet is a well-known therapist in Durango and we are happy to have her at our clinic so that we can continue to learn from her and her specialties. If you are interested in setting up an appointment with Janet, please call us today and we will get you in to see her as soon as possible. Act quickly, though, as her schedule is filling up fast with patients old and new!
